Grand Chess Tournament : Gukesh defeated Carlsen in chess

Young Indian chess star D. Gukesh has once again proved that he can beat even the great players with his game. Gukesh has defeated world number 1 player Magnus Carlsen in the sixth round of the Grand Chess Tournament being held in Zagreb, Croatia. Interestingly, before the match, Carlsen had mocked Gukesh by calling him a weak player, but Gukesh has responded to his joke not with words but with his moves

While talking to the media, Magnus said, I will take this match as if I am playing against a weak player. Gukesh has not done anything so far that suggests that he can be counted among the best players in this format.

This comment of Carlsen was an attempt to take Gukesh lightly, but Gukesh did not give any statement on this, rather he directly defeated him in a chess match and shattered his pride.

Gukesh defeated Carlsen twice in chess

This is not the first time that Gukesh has defeated Carlsen. Earlier in the Norway Chess Tournament, he surprised everyone by defeating Carlsen. With that victory, he joined the select group of Indians who defeated Carlsen in the classical format. Before him, India’s R. Praggnanandhaa has also tasted defeat from Carlsen. Now by registering his second consecutive victory in the Grand Chess Tournament, Gukesh has proved that his success is not a mere coincidence, but the result of hard work and talent.

Gukesh performance so far

On the first day of the Grand Chess Tournament, Gukesh had a good start by winning two out of three matches. After this, in the fourth round, he defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan and in the fifth round, he defeated Fabiano Caruana of America. Now, by defeating Carlsen in the sixth round, he has reached the top position in the tournament with 10 points.
