Batting first, India scored 136 for nine in 26 overs, but under the Duckworth-Lewis method, Australia was set a revised target of 131 runs to win. Australia won the match by scoring 131 for three in 21.1 overs, thanks to a brilliant innings by captain Mitchell Marsh.
With Australia’s victory, India’s eight-match winning streak in ODIs ended. This is the first time this year that India has suffered an ODI defeat. The Indian team played under the captaincy of Shubman Gill for the first time, but Gill lost in his very first match as ODI captain. Australia displayed strength with both the bat and the ball in this match and was successful in winning the match.

- The Indian team had a poor start. Rohit Sharma (8), Virat Kohli (0) and captain Shubman Gill (10) were dismissed cheaply. Shreyas Iyer scored 11 runs.
- KL Rahul (38) and Axar Patel (31) tried to stabilize the innings, but rain disrupted their momentum.
- Debutant all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy remained unbeaten on 19 runs in the final overs, hitting two sixes in 11 balls, helping the team reach a respectable total.
- Australia bowling: Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets each.
2. Australia’s innings

- Total score: 131/3 (21.1 overs)
- Chasing the target, Australia suffered the first blow in the form of Travis Head (8) and Matthew Short (8).
- Captain Marsh batted brilliantly and stayed until the end. He remained unbeaten on 46 off 52 balls.
- Marsh shared a partnership with Josh Philippe (37 runs). Phillip was dismissed by Washington Sundar.
- In the end, Marsh and Matt Renshaw (21 not out) combined to give Australia a 7-wicket win.
