IPL 2026: In this role, Tom Moody will oversee the operations of several LSG franchises, including LSG in the IPL, the Durban Super Giants in SA20 and their Manchester-based team in The Hundred.
Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody is expected to be appointed Global Director of Cricket for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In this expanded role, Moody will oversee the operations of the three cricket franchises owned by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG). These include the Lucknow Super Giants of the IPL, the Durban Super Giants of the South African League (SA20), and the Manchester-based team of The Hundred.
Moody will work closely with Lucknow’s head coach Justin Langer and recently appointed strategic advisor Kane Williamson. The 60-year-old is considered one of the most respected coaches in international cricket, with over two decades of experience. This year, he played a key role in helping the Oval Invincibles win their third consecutive The Hundred title.
Given Moody’s skill and experience, franchises like Surrey and Mumbai Indians were also interested in retaining him. However, according to ESPN Moody accepted LSG’s offer because it offered him a more comprehensive and influential role. The RPSG Group, which owns LSG, is yet to officially announce the appointment
Moody’s return and LSG expectations
This move marks the return of Tom Moody to the IPL; he last left Sunrisers Hyderabad after the 2022 season. During his first tenure with Hyderabad (2013-2019), the team won the IPL title in 2016, a testament to his successful coaching record. At LSG, Moody will replace Zaheer Khan, who parted ways with the franchise after the 2024 season.
LSG had a strong start by reaching the playoffs in IPL 2022 and 2023, but the team failed to sustain the momentum in the last two seasons, exiting in the knockout stage. Despite a strong start in IPL 2025, Lucknow won only one of their last six matches, finishing seventh in the table. As the new Global Director, Tom Moody’s primary objective will be to restore LSG’s lost momentum and ensure the franchise’s continued success across all leagues.
