IND vs SA Test: India’s humiliating defeat in Kolkata
IND vs SA: The second Test in Kolkata ended inside three days. South Africa defeated India by 30 runs in the first Test.
In the first Test match played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, South Africa defeated India by 30 runs in a thrilling contest to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The match ended on the third day. Batsmen from both teams struggled in the match. India were set a modest target of 124 runs to win, but on a difficult pitch, the Indian innings was reduced to 93 runs in just 35 overs.
Simon Harmer named Player of the Match –
Captain Shubman Gill was unable to take the field in the second innings due to a neck injury. Washington Sundar was India’s top scorer with 31 runs. South African spinner Simon Harmer bowled brilliantly in both innings. Harmer took a total of 8 wickets in both innings and won the Player of the Match award.

In South Africa’s second innings, captain Temba Bavuma played a brilliant innings of 55*, helping the team reach 153 runs and give them a crucial lead of 123 runs. In the bowling department, off-spinner Simon Harmer dashed India’s hopes by taking four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja also took four wickets for India. Earlier, South Africa were bowled out for 159 in the first innings, while India scored 189 to take an early 30-run lead, but failed to capitalize on it.
A unique feat achieved after 21 years –
Interestingly, a total of 594 runs were scored in this Test. This is the lowest combined score in any Test match in India that resulted in a result in all four innings. Previously, this record was held by the Wankhede Test in 2004, where a total of 604 runs were scored. The result of this Test match between India and Australia was decided on the third day itself. India won the match by 13 runs.
Second Test in Guwahati –
It is worth noting that the second match of the two-match Test series will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The second Test will begin on November 22nd, with India aiming to win and level the series 1-1.
