Sunrisers Hyderabad announces captain ahead of IPL 2026 auction: All franchises have released their lists of retained and released players for the next season (2026) of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, with the trading window still open, changes within the teams are still possible. Amidst all this, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have officially announced their captain.
Hyderabad’s team is full of explosive batsmen
Sunrisers Hyderabad is a team that boasts a slew of explosive batsmen. This list includes many big names like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, who can single-handedly turn the tide of a match.
For the past few seasons, the team has been captained by Australian legend Pat Cummins. Under his captaincy, the team performed brilliantly in 2024, reaching the final. The franchise has now announced the captain for the new season on Monday.

The Hyderabad franchise has decided to retain Pat Cummins as captain for the next season (2026). This will be his third consecutive season as captain. He first captained the team in 2024.
SRH posted a picture of Cummins and wrote:
“2024, 2025, 2026… Orange Again. Captain Edition.”

Cummins has changed the team’s mood
Since Pat Cummins became captain, he has completely transformed the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. Before he became captain, Hyderabad was often considered a “weak team,” but now no one can take this team lightly.
This team has a pool of excellent batsmen as well as excellent bowlers. It is expected that Hyderabad will focus on strengthening its bowling attack at this year’s auction.
Hyderabad needs a title
Pat Cummins is also the captain of the Australian cricket team. Under his captaincy, Australia
- won the ICC Test Championship and
- won the ODI World Cup in 2023.
Cummins is expected to use his title experience to end Sunrisers Hyderabad’s title drought. When he led the team to the final in 2024, it seemed they would win the title this time, but the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dashed their hopes in the final.
