Luke Ronchi, New Zealand’s star batting coach, will step down from his position later this year. New Zealand Cricket officially announced on Friday, July 17, that Ronchi will part ways with the Black Caps following the upcoming home series against India.

 

After leaving the New Zealand cricket team, Luke Ronchi will begin a new chapter as the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s renowned Big Bash League (BBL).

Luke Ronchi took over as the full-time batting coach of the Black Caps in 2020, replacing Peter Fulton. During his six-year tenure, New Zealand cricket achieved numerous historic successes on the international stage, and Ronchi played a pivotal role in guiding the team through its most glorious era.

Key achievements of Ronchi’s tenure:

  • Won the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) title in 2021 by defeating India.
  • The New Zealand team reached the T20 World Cup final twice.

Expressing gratitude regarding his decision to step down, Luke Ronchi stated that returning to the national team had always been a “dream come true” for him.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Test captain Tom Latham has expressed sadness over Ronchi’s departure. Latham said, “We have lost a key member of the team who deeply understood and fostered our internal culture. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) stated that, keeping upcoming crucial international matches in mind, they will initiate the process of appointing a new batting coach at the appropriate time to ensure a smooth transition and avoid any disruption to the players’ performance.
