WPL 2027 Auction Date Revealed: Preparations for the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) have now intensified. The picture regarding everything from player retention and releases to the auction is becoming clear. The BCCI has formally informed all five WPL franchises about the date and venue for the Season 5 auction.
WPL 2027 Auction Set for October 28 in Kochi
According to a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI has shared auction-related details with all five teams. The mega auction for players will be held in Kochi on October 28.
Player Retention Deadline Fixed for September 28
With the auction date finalized, the franchises have little time left. All five teams must submit their final lists of retained and released players to the BCCI by September 28. Only then will it become clear which star players will enter the auction pool.
Squad Rules and INR 15 Crore Purse Limit
Rules regarding team composition and budgets have been established for this edition:
- Maximum Players: A squad can consist of a maximum of 18 players.
- Overseas Players: Teams are permitted to include up to 6 overseas players.
- Salary Cap: The purse (salary cap) for each team has been set at INR 15 crore for this cycle.
Mumbai and Vadodara Confirmed as Primary Venues
Matches for the upcoming season are expected to be played during January and February.
Two cities are considered all but finalized as venues:
- Mumbai: Brabourne Stadium (CCI)
- Vadodara: Kotambi Stadium
The previous season was also played at these two venues, with the final match held in Vadodara on February 5.
Uncertainty Over Varanasi Hosting WPL Matches
There was talk of hosting some matches at the new stadium in Varanasi, but the likelihood of this happening is currently very low. Before hosting a major tournament like the WPL, it is essential to test the stadium through domestic cricket matches. Therefore, hosting matches in Varanasi will depend entirely on the stadium’s state of readiness.
