Axar Patel has been ruled out of the remaining two matches of the T20 series against South Africa due to illness. However, he will remain with the team for the fourth match of the series in Lucknow, where he will receive the necessary medical attention.

The selection committee has included Shahbaz Ahmed in the squad for both matches of the series to be played in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Like Axar, Shahbaz is also a left-arm spinner all-rounder. He has received this opportunity after a long time. He last played a T20 match for India against Afghanistan in the Asian Games on October 7, 2023. He has played three ODIs and two T20 matches for India. He has taken three wickets in ODIs and two wickets in T20s.

Axar played in the first two matches of the series. In Cuttack, he bowled brilliantly, taking two wickets for just seven runs. He also contributed 23 runs with the bat. In the second T20 played in Chandigarh, he took one wicket and scored 21 runs.
