England veteran Chris Woakes retires from international cricket: Ahead of the start of England’s tour of Australia for the Ashes, veteran England fast bowler Chris Woakes has retired from international cricket. He made the announcement via a post on Instagram.
The 36-year-old English all-rounder retired from international cricket after 15 years of impressive performances. He played his last match in the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against India. Despite a dislocated shoulder, Woakes displayed immense courage and came out to bat for his country.
In his bowling career, Woakes took 192 wickets in 62 Test matches for England. Furthermore, he also took 173 wickets in 122 ODIs and 31 wickets in T20Is. With the bat, the English all-rounder scored a total of 3,705 runs for his country across all formats.
Woakes shared his experience of winning two ICC trophies in his international career
Chris Woakes played his first international match against Australia in the 2011 Ashes series. Since then, he has used his skill and passion to help his country win numerous matches and titles. He played a significant role in England’s victory in the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20I World Cup. In his post, Woakes stated that he will continue playing club and franchise cricket.
Chris Woakes thanked all his teammates, coaches, and colleagues in his Instagram post, saying, “I will remember this moment for the rest of my life. I will always be grateful to all the fans, and especially the Barmy Army, for their faith and love in me.”
Chris Woakes’ International Career
Chris Woakes played 62 Tests for England, taking 192 wickets. However, he fell short of reaching 200. He played 122 ODIs, taking 173 wickets. He also played 33 T20 Internationals, taking 31 wickets. Chris Woakes also wrote a lengthy post on social media while announcing his international retirement.
