Faf du Plessis will play in PSL instead of IPL 2026: South African star batsman Faf du Plessis made a major decision on Saturday, deciding not to play in IPL 2026. He announced that he would rather play in the Pakistan Super League than the IPL. Du Plessis was part of the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. Prior to that, he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Did not register for IPL 2026 auction

Duplessis announced his decision on social media, stating that he will not participate in the IPL 2026 auction, scheduled for December 16th in Abu Dhabi. He will participate in the PSL instead of the IPL. Du Plessis said, “After 14 seasons in the IPL, I have decided not to enter the auction this year. This league has been a huge part of my journey. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to play with world-class teammates, for a great franchise, and in front of fans whose passion is like no other.”

He said that he will not play in the IPL this season but this is not a farewell to India. Du Plessis further said, ’14 years is a long time, and I am proud of what this chapter means to me. India holds a special place in my heart, and this is definitely not a farewell, you will see me again.’ He has also played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) before. In 2019 and 2021, he played for Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. Now he is ready for a new journey.

Faf du Plessis’ IPL career

The 41-year-old batsman has played for four IPL teams, including Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals. In 154 matches, the right-handed batsman has scored 4,773 runs, including 39 half-centuries.
