Team vice-captain and star opener Shubman Gill may be ruled out of the last two T20I matches due to a toe injury. This injury could prove to be a major setback for Gill, who has been struggling with poor form.
Injury sustained during net practice
According to a PTI report, Shubman Gill sustained the injury during a training session. A BCCI source said that Gill had a long practice session in the nets the day before the fourth match. Towards the end of the session, a ball hit him directly on his toe, after which he was seen writhing in pain and limping.
Doubt over playing in Ahmedabad

A series of injuries and poor form
The past few months have been quite challenging for Shubman Gill. Before the South Africa tour, he was also ruled out of the Test and ODI series due to a neck injury. His performance in this T20 series since his return has not been impressive:
- First match: 4 runs
- Second match: 0 runs
- Third match: 28 runs
Selectors’ concern: World Cup preparations
The upcoming series against New Zealand is India’s last preparation before the World Cup. The selection committee and team management do not want their key batsman’s injury to worsen.</ On the other hand, calls to give Sanju Samson a chance have intensified amidst Gill’s poor form, especially given Samson’s impressive performance last season.
