Nat Sciver-Brunt Creates History: Becomes the First Player to Score a Century in WPL History

On January 26th, the BCA (Kotambi) Stadium in Vadodara witnessed a historic moment in the fourth season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). In the 16th match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), England’s legendary all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt achieved a feat that cricket fans had been waiting for over the past four seasons.

The Tournament’s First Historic Century

Nat Sciver-Brunt demolished the RCB bowlers, scoring an unbeaten 100 runs off just 57 balls. With this, she became the first cricketer in WPL history to score a century. Previously, several players had crossed the 90-run mark, but none had managed to reach the magical three-figure score.

Brunt hit 16 fours and one towering six in her innings. She completed her century with a single off the fourth ball of the last over, etching her name in golden letters in the record books.

Georgia Wareham’s Record Broken

Nat Sciver-Brunt not only scored a century but also broke the record for the highest individual score in the WPL.

  • Georgia Wareham: 99 runs (vs RCB, previous season)

Previously, legends like Sophie Devine and Smriti Mandhana had also scored 90+ runs, but Brunt ended that drought today.

Hayley Matthews and Brunt’s ‘Super’ Partnership

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians’ innings was given a strong start by Brunt and opening batter Hayley Matthews.

The two shared a massive 131-run partnership for the second wicket. Matthews also played a quickfire innings of 56 runs off 39 balls (9 fours).

Mumbai’s Most Reliable Pair

The pair of Matthews and Brunt has now become one of the most dangerous pairs in the WPL. Looking at the statistics:

  2. 133 runs: vs Gujarat Giants (March 13, 2025)
