Smriti Mandhana created history with her incredible innings: Ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the Indian women’s team is playing a three-match ODI series against former champions Australia. After losing the first match, the Indian team is playing its second match today. Batting first after losing the toss at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh, Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana scored her 12th ODI century in just 77 balls.
Fastest Century in Indian Women’s Cricket
Not only this, Smriti has etched her name in the pages of history with this explosive batting display. Smriti still holds the record for the fastest century in Indian women’s cricket, coming in at 70 balls, and now she has also achieved the record for the second-fastest century.

During her brilliant innings, the graceful left-handed batsman achieved another milestone. She set a new record for the most runs scored by an Indian woman batsman in a calendar year. In the process, she surpassed Deepti Sharma’s record of 787 runs in 20 matches in 2017.
With this innings, Mandhana, who recently regained the top spot in the women’s ODI batting rankings, has now moved into third place on the list of highest century-scorers in women’s ODIs, alongside England’s Tammy Beaumont.
In this list, legendary Meg Lanning, who will retire from international cricket in November 2023, remains at the top with 15 centuries. Can Smriti be able to surpass Meg Lanning’s record of 15 centuries? Please let us know your opinion in the comments.
On the other hand, Smriti’s form ahead of the World Cup could prove beneficial for the Indian team. This young Indian batting line-up will be greatly aided by Smriti’s excellent form. Furthermore, the Indian team will hope that she continues her dream run and wins her first Women’s ICC trophy.
