Today is Devshayani Ekadashi. From this day the night of the gods begins, that is, the sleeping period of the gods and goddesses begins, for 4 months Vishnu ji also resides in Yog Nidra in Patal. These four months have been named Chaturmas, the period of Devshayani Ekadashi and Chaturmas is considered very important for the worship of Shri Hari.

Devshayani Ekadashi 2025 Fasting Parana

Devshayani Ekadashi has started on 5th July at 6.58 pm and will end on 6th July 2025 at 9.14 pm. Even though Ekadashi Tithi is ending today, Dwadashi Tithi will start but its fast is broken only after sunrise.

The fast of Devshayani Ekadashi will be broken on 7th July. On this day, the fast can be broken between 5.29 am to 8.16 am.

How to break the fast of Devshayani Ekadashi?

The special importance of the fast of Devshayani Ekadashi has been mentioned in the scriptures and it is considered one of the major Ekadashis of the year, hence its fast should be observed by keeping in mind all the rites and rules, only then the full benefits of the difficult fast are achieved.

  • On the next day of Devshayani Ekadashi, on Dwadashi Tithi, the fasting person should first take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes. After this, one should worship Lord Vishnu.
  • Offer yellow flowers, sandalwood, Tulsi leaves, incense, lamp and naivedya in the worship.
  • Chant Om Narayanaya Namah or Om Vishnuve Namah mantra.
  • After worship, one should donate food, yellow clothes, dakshina or fruits etc. to the priest or a Brahmin in the temple. Then consume Tulsi with water.
  • Keep in mind that on this day food should be eaten on Dwadashi Tithi, after sunrise and before 12 noon, otherwise it is a sin.
  • Do not eat fried, tamasic food during Parana.
