India’s first blind triathlete Niket Dalal passes away, who was Niket Dalal?
The sudden demise of Niket Srinivas Dalal, India’s first blind ironman and an inspiration to millions, is a big shock for the entire nation. On the morning of July 1, his body was found in the parking lot of a hotel in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Investigation revealed that he had fallen from the second floor of the hotel. The accident was so serious that he died on the spot.
How did the accident happen?
What happened to Niket is very unfortunate. On the night of June 30, his house suddenly caught fire. Due to which his friends took him out of the house at around 2:30 in the night and kept him in a hotel keeping his safety in mind. No one had any idea that this would prove to be his last night. At around 8 in the morning, the hotel staff found Niket’s body in the parking lot. So far it is being considered an accident. However, a wave of mourning has spread across the city, because Niket was not just a name but he was a hope. At present, the police is investigating this entire incident.
Who was Niket Dalal?
Niket Dalal did what many people cannot do even with their eyes. In the year 2020, he completed the Ironman 70.3 triathlon. It includes 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling race and 21.1 km running. He became not only the first blind athlete in India but also the fifth in the world to achieve this feat.
Niket lost his eyesight in 2015 when a disease called glaucoma made him completely blind, but he did not give up. He was a speech therapist by profession and had a keen interest in sports. He also won three medals in national level swimming competitions.
