How much money do Indian cricketers get for playing a Test match?

Cricket is not just a game in India, but a passion. This game that beats in millions of hearts, gives players not only fame but also a lot of wealth. Especially when it comes to Test cricket, this format is a real test of the patience, skill and mental strength of the players. In recent years, since the introduction of the World Test Championship, the interest of people and players towards the Test format is being seen once again.

How many lakhs of rupees do Indian Test cricketers get?

This question must be arising in the minds of many cricket lovers that how many lakhs of rupees do Indian cricketers get for playing a Test match? This is a reasonable question because players put everything at stake for this game.

According to media reports, any Indian player is given additional money for playing Test matches apart from their annual salary of the central contract. This amount is in lakhs, due to which a player who is a regular part of the Indian Test team can become financially very strong.

Match Fee: Rs 15 Lakh per Test

Any player from the Indian team gets ₹15 lakh for playing a Test match. This amount is provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This is their basic match fee, which every player gets for playing a Test match, whether he is part of the playing XI or not, provided he is included in the squad.

Incentives: Reward for performance

The BCCI doesn’t stop at just paying match fees. The board also offers incentives to players to reward their consistent performance in Test cricket and their commitment to this format. This scheme is for players who play more Test matches in a year.

  • Players who play 75% to 100% of Test matches in a year get an additional incentive of ₹45 lakh per match. This means that on top of the match fee of ₹15 lakh, they get this additional ₹45 lakh, which can take their total earnings for a Test match to ₹60 lakh.
  • Players who play 50% to 75% of Test matches in a year are given an additional incentive of ₹30 lakh per match.
  • Even players who are not part of the playing XI but are included in the squad get a certain share of this incentive (e.g. ₹22.5 lakh for more than 75% of matches, and ₹15 lakh for 50-75%).

This incentive scheme ensures that players prioritise Test cricket and consistently perform at their best in this format. This not only benefits the players financially, but also strengthens the bench strength of the Indian Test team.
