Why was Rohit Sharma removed from captaincy? The veteran gave Ajit Agarkar a class
Mohammad Kaif on Rohit Sharma Captaincy: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has strongly criticized the selection committee for removing Rohit Sharma from the captaincy.
Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, Shubman Gill became the new captain. Gill now also assumes the responsibility of captaining the ODI team. Many fans and cricket experts are still unhappy with Rohit’s removal from captaincy, including former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif. Kaif targeted chief selector Ajit Agarkar and other selectors, questioning what mistake Rohit made. Kaif also said that the selection committee acted too hastily in appointing Shubman Gill as captain.
Mohammad Kaif stated on his YouTube channel that he expected Rohit to be removed from captaincy, although he hoped it would happen after the 2027 World Cup. Kaif stated that Rohit is a world-class player, has maintained his fitness, and can play until the 2027 World Cup.
Shubman Gill is being unnecessarily pressured
Mohammad Kaif said, “All I’m saying is don’t put too much pressure on Gill. He captains Test matches and bats at number four. He was named vice-captain in the Asia Cup, and when Suryakumar Yadav retires, Gill will replace him. Now he’s been given the ODI captaincy. I think all this is being done in a hurry. No player asks for the captaincy; everyone knows Gill didn’t want it, but suddenly everyone is looking at him as the future captain. Ajit Agarkar and the other selectors are putting too much pressure on him.”
What did Rohit Sharma do wrong?
Criticizing the selection committee, Mohammad Kaif said, “What exactly did Rohit Sharma do wrong? It’s unfortunate that Rohit didn’t get a long captaincy tenure, not even a full four years. He’s a brilliant batsman and a great captain. His captaincy record could have been even better. When you take away the captaincy, I think that player’s right arm breaks.”
