Babar Azam surpasses Virat Kohli for T20I record against ireland

Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, cemented his reputation as one of the world’s best T20 batsmen in the recently concluded series against Ireland. Following a surprise loss in the first T20I, Pakistan roared back to win the series 2-1, with Azam’s performance in the final match being a major turning point.

Babar Breaks Kohli’s Record

Azam’s knock of 75 runs off just 42 deliveries was a masterclass in T20 batting. This outstanding performance not only propelled Pakistan to victory in Dublin but also saw him break a prestigious record previously held by India’s Virat Kohli. Azam now holds the title for the batsman with the most fifty-plus scores in T20I cricket. This incredible feat is a testament to Azam’s consistency and ability to score big runs on a regular basis. Kohli, a legend in his own right, sits just one spot behind with 38 fifties in T20Is.

Azam’s Dominant Batting Display

Azam’s innings was a display of power and finesse. He smashed five sixes and six boundaries, showcasing his ability to clear the ropes with ease while also adeptly manipulating the field. He even etched his name in the record books once again by becoming the first Pakistani batsman to score 25 runs in a single over. This feat involved hitting four consecutive sixes off of Ireland’s Benjamin White, followed by a single to complete the remarkable feat.

Rizwan and Azam: A Partnership for the Ages

Azam wasn’t the only star performer for Pakistan. His partnership with opening batsman Mohammad Rizwan (56 runs) laid the foundation for the team’s victory. This wasn’t just any ordinary partnership; it was the 10th century stand between the two in T20I cricket, making them the first pair in history to achieve this landmark. Furthermore, their partnership has now amassed a staggering 3,000 runs, solidifying their position as one of the most prolific opening pairs in the shortest format.

Looking Ahead to the T20 World Cup

With this series win, Pakistan has gained valuable momentum heading into a crucial T20I series against England. This series, starting on May 22nd, will be their final opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and solidify their ideal batting combination before the much-anticipated T20 World Cup. With Babar Azam leading the charge and Rizwan providing unwavering support, Pakistan will undoubtedly be a team to watch on the world stage.
