The Indian team is first scheduled to play a series comprising one Test match and three ODIs against Afghanistan. Immediately following this, India’s T20I squad will embark on a tour of Ireland, where a two-match series is set to take place.
For this series against Ireland, calls to include Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the squad have now intensified.
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and former Chief Selector MSK Prasad has appealed to the current Chairman of the Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar, to give Vaibhav an immediate opportunity in the senior team.

Speaking to the media, MSK Prasad heaped praise on Vaibhav. He believes that Vaibhav is not merely a ‘talent’ (or prodigy), but has already established himself as one of the most dangerous players in T20 cricket.
“He should be included in the Indian team immediately and selected for the Ireland series. There is no point in holding him back. He will play for India very soon, and he will play for a long time.”

Prasad argues that delivering such performances in the IPL against the world’s best bowlers and under immense pressure constitutes the ultimate preparation for senior international cricket. Future Plan: The Journey from T20s to ODIs and Tests
The former selector has also suggested an excellent roadmap for Vaibhav’s future. He believes that, rather than thrusting this young player directly into all formats, he should be eased into them gradually:
- Starting with T20Is: First, he should be given the opportunity to cement his place in T20 Internationals.
- ODIs and Other Formats: Following success in T20s, he should be gradually transitioned into the ODI format, and subsequently, Test cricket.
- Two Years of Monitoring: He should be closely monitored over the next two years, after which he will fully evolve into a match-winner in his own right.
