From IPL to Team India?: In the world of cricket, whenever a new star shines, its resonance is felt across the globe. However, when a player begins to dominate the world’s biggest cricket league at such a tender age, it can only be described as a phenomenon. With the conclusion of IPL 2026, the cricketing world has discovered a new superstar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
In his very first full season, Vaibhav has achieved a feat that even the greatest legends could scarcely imagine.
The Youngest Batsman to Win the ‘Orange Cap’

In the IPL, the ‘Orange Cap’ is awarded to the player who scores the most runs throughout the entire tournament. This year, this prestigious cap did not rest upon the head of an established international star, but rather adorned the head of the young sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. With this achievement, Vaibhav has become the youngest batsman in the history of the IPL to win the Orange Cap.
He achieved this milestone by surpassing world-class batsmen such as Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Heinrich Klaasen.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s IPL 2026 Record:
- Total Innings: 16
- Total Runs: 776
- Strike Rate: 237.31 (which is considered exceptionally explosive in T20 cricket)
A Call from Team India: Growing Demands for the Ireland Tour
As the excitement of the IPL subsides, everyone’s attention has now shifted toward international cricket. The Indian team is first scheduled to play a series comprising one Test match and three ODIs against Afghanistan. Immediately following this, India’s T20I squad will embark on a tour of Ireland, where a two-match series is set to take place.
For this series against Ireland, calls to include Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the squad have now intensified.
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and former Chief Selector MSK Prasad has appealed to the current Chairman of the Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar, to give Vaibhav an immediate opportunity in the senior team.
“He Should Be Included in the Indian Team Immediately” – MSK Prasad

Speaking to the media, MSK Prasad heaped praise on Vaibhav. He believes that Vaibhav is not merely a ‘talent’ (or prodigy), but has already established himself as one of the most dangerous players in T20 cricket.
“He should be included in the Indian team immediately and selected for the Ireland series. There is no point in holding him back. He will play for India very soon, and he will play for a long time.”
— MSK Prasad (Former Chief Selector)
Prasad argues that delivering such performances in the IPL against the world’s best bowlers and under immense pressure constitutes the ultimate preparation for senior international cricket. It is worth noting that Vaibhav has also been included in the India ‘A’ squad for the upcoming tri-series tour of Sri Lanka.
Future Plan: The Journey from T20s to ODIs and Tests

The former selector has also suggested an excellent roadmap for Vaibhav’s future. He believes that, rather than thrusting this young player directly into all formats, he should be eased into them gradually:
- Starting with T20Is: First, he should be given the opportunity to cement his place in T20 Internationals.
- ODIs and Other Formats: Following success in T20s, he should be gradually transitioned into the ODI format, and subsequently, Test cricket.
- Two Years of Monitoring: He should be closely monitored over the next two years, after which he will fully evolve into a match-winner in his own right.
