Brook faced a total of 116 deliveries in his innings, scoring 202 runs. His aggressive knock included 21 fours and 10 magnificent sixes. Although he was dismissed on the final ball of the innings, he had already propelled England to a massive total.

In the long history of English ODI cricket, no batter had ever managed to score a double century—until now. Before Brook, the record for the highest individual score by an England player in an ODI was held by Ben Stokes (182 runs against New Zealand, 2023). By shattering this record, Brook has earned the distinction of becoming the first and only English batter to score a double century in an ODI.

A Unique Record, Shared with Glenn Maxwell

In world cricket, double centuries are typically scored by opening batters, as they have the opportunity to face the full 50 overs. However, Brook has achieved this feat without opening the batting.

He has become only the second player in cricket history after Glenn Maxwell to score over 200 runs in an ODI without opening the innings. Maxwell accomplished this remarkable feat against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
