Mohammad Amir Confirms Retirement: Veteran Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir has put an end to all speculation regarding his international cricket career. Amir has officially confirmed that there is no possibility of a comeback to the Pakistan national cricket team and that his international career has now completely ended.

Mohammad Amir clarified his position in a recent interview on Furqan Bhatti’s YouTube channel. He revealed that he has obtained a British (UK) passport through his wife, Narjis Khan.

His legal eligibility to represent Pakistan has ended following his acquisition of British citizenship.

After obtaining a UK passport, Amir is now playing as a local player in English domestic cricket tournaments such as ‘The Hundred’ and the ‘County Championship’.

Referring to UK cricket regulations, Amir stated in an interview:

“I am now a local player in the UK. When you play as a local player in tournaments like the County Championship and ‘The Hundred’, you have to sign a document clearly stating that you cannot play as a local player for any other country. Therefore, my Pakistan chapter is now officially closed.”

Despite bidding farewell to international cricket, Mohammad Amir will continue to play in franchise leagues around the world.

New Role in PSL: Amir has clarified that he will continue to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), but he will participate as an overseas player rather than as a domestic Pakistani player.

Recently, during ‘The Hundred’, Amir was asked whether he could play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) based on his British citizenship, much like former Pakistani player Azhar Mahmood.

Clarifying his priorities, Amir stated that his main focus is currently on the PSL. He has not yet made a final decision regarding playing in the IPL.

Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket following the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. During his illustrious career, he played the following for Pakistan:

  • 61 One Day International (ODI) matches

Throughout his career, he single-handedly steered Pakistan to victory on numerous occasions, but now his memorable international journey has officially come to an end.
