Varun Chakaravarthy Out of AFG T20I Series: Disturbing news has emerged regarding the Indian cricket team amidst the ongoing T20 series against Afghanistan. After securing a magnificent victory in the first T20 match, Team India will be deprived of the services of their key mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy. Chakaravarthy will no longer be able to participate in the remaining two matches of the series.
1st T20 Match: Chakaravarthy’s Performance & India’s Dominant Win
The first match of the three-game T20 series between India and Afghanistan was played on September 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Displaying an excellent brand of cricket, the Indian team handed Afghanistan a crushing 7-wicket defeat. During the match, Varun Chakaravarthy spun a web around the batters, conceding just 16 runs in his four overs and claiming one crucial wicket.
Ruled Out of Remaining T20 Matches
Despite his impressive performance in the opening match, Chakaravarthy has been abruptly ruled out of the entire series. He will not take the field for the second T20 match scheduled for September 15 or the third and final T20 match on September 17.
Suspense Over Reason for Exclusion
The exact reason for Varun Chakaravarthy’s sudden exclusion from the series remains unclear. Neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the team management has issued an official statement regarding his fitness or the cause of his withdrawal. Consequently, the question remains whether he has been sidelined due to an injury or for some other reason.
History of Injury Concerns & Growing Trouble for Team India
Battling injuries is nothing new for Varun Chakaravarthy. Previously, he sustained a leg injury while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the IPL. Subsequently, during the T20 series against England in July, he suffered a hamstring issue that ruled him out of the third match.
Due to the hamstring injury, he had to undergo a lengthy rehabilitation period at the BCCI Centre of Excellence and missed the T20 series against Ireland as well. With the upcoming Asian Games in mind, Varun’s recurring injuries are a major cause for concern for the Indian team.
Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi to Lead Spin Attack
With Chakaravarthy ruled out, the responsibility of leading the Indian spin attack now rests on the shoulders of Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi. Having already taken a 1-0 lead in the series, the Indian team will look to clinch the series in the remaining two matches by relying on these two spinners.
