India Tour of Bangladesh 2026 Postponed Again? BCB Chief Tamim Iqbal Hints at Major Delay

India Tour of Bangladesh 2026 Postponed Again?: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could once again derail the plans of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Recent statements by BCB President Tamim Iqbal suggest that the Indian team’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh might be postponed again. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, ongoing discussions are taking place between the BCB and the BCCI regarding the future of this bilateral series.

As per the original schedule, the Indian team was supposed to tour Bangladesh in August of last year. However, the tour was postponed at the time and rescheduled for September 2026. In January of this year, the BCB announced that the Indian team would play a series comprising three ODIs and three T20 Internationals in Dhaka and Chattogram. Yet, the BCCI has not yet given its official seal of approval to this entire schedule.

According to the proposed schedule, the first ODI is set to be played on September 3. However, with less than two weeks remaining before the match, uncertainty looms over whether the series will actually take place.

Recently, during a press conference held in Dhaka, BCB President Tamim Iqbal announced an age-group tournament named ‘The Game Development Trophy’.

According to the schedule released by the board, the tournament is set to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium between August 28 and September 9.

When Tamim Iqbal was asked whether hosting the domestic tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium implied that the Indian team would not be visiting Bangladesh, he clarified the situation:

“Both cricket boards are in discussions regarding this series, and some changes to the dates are possible. Currently, the tournament is scheduled to be held in Mirpur, but it could be shifted to the Bashundhara Ground at short notice if necessary. If the dates for India’s tour are finalized, we will adjust our schedule accordingly.”

History of India-Bangladesh Cricket Relations and Recent Conflicts

Cricket relations between the two nations had previously witnessed considerable strain. The dispute arose when the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL squad. In protest, Bangladesh—under the leadership of the then-BCB chief Aminul Islam—refused to send its team to the T20 World Cup, which was being co-hosted by India.

However, there have been signs of improving relations recently. New BCB President Tamim Iqbal visited India earlier this month, where he also toured the BCCI’s ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Bengaluru.

All eyes are now on the BCCI’s official decision regarding whether the Indian team will fly to Dhaka as scheduled or if cricket fans will have to wait a little longer for this series.
