In a recent interaction with Star Sports, legendary cricketer Brian Lara shed light on what makes Rohit Sharma such a standout player.  Praising his work ethic, Lara highlighted Rohit’s ability to connect with fans.  He acknowledged the challenges Rohit faced early in his career, overcoming selection hurdles with perseverance.  Lara also emphasized Rohit’s strong sense of teamwork, prioritizing both the Indian national side and his IPL team, the Mumbai Indians.

When you look at Rohit Sharma, you feel that he connects to the public very well. He had a tough upbringing, he came out and pretty much spent his entire life playing for India; sometimes, not getting the nod from selectors and having to work his way back. When you have an image and stature of Rohit Sharma, sometimes, some people don’t take the knock down really well. But what’s admirable with him is his ability to put everything aside, and put India first, and put Mumbai Indians first, and play cricket the way it should be,said Lara.

Rohit Sharma is not a sulker: Brian Lara

Lara also went on to say that Rohit isn’t a sulker and is a leader even he isn’t the desginated captain of the side. The West Indies legend feels that Rohit represents the role of leader well on the field.

“He’s not a sulker, which is great. He is a leader, it doesn’t matter if you are captain or not. At some point of time, when you get to a certain age or level, you are a leader. I think he represents that role really well,” said Lara.

Rohit has scored 261 runs so far this season from 6 matches, including a valiant 105 not out against CSK in the last game. The MI star will be in action on April 18 against PBKS.
